I found a post on a similar piece from 8 years ago but wondered if there may be more current information. I have my Grandfathers sword/machete (not sure of the difference – thinking a machete would be wider than a sword) manufactured by Collins & Co. Hartford Acero Fino Calidad Garantizada. It is a Legitimus No. 216 with a #10 Scabbard. The handle has 5 rivets and must be horn. The blade is 28” long x 1.5” wide and the handle is 5” long.

Welcome to KF!!

Can't help, much.... but the difference is in the intention.
I think the blade is intended for use as a machete, first.
Sword, second.
But it would serve either purpose.

The markings would suggest that it was intended for a latin american market.
Collins did a lot of stuff for "colonial" markets.

BTW, the blade length would compensate, somewhat, for the lack of width while the length would give it the reach of a weapon.
