I watched this hoping he would try the Victorinox rescue Knife. I have one. Now I wonder? By the way hard is relative. Some metals are harder than others. It all depends on the alloys. As he said the graphite tip is harder.

It also depends on the glass. Autoglass is a special compound designed to resist normal road hazards, but shatter into little pieces with rounded edges that make it less dangerous in an accident. It can still cut you but not the way old auto glass, that broke into big sheets with knife edges did. the hardness of glass varies too, So whacking it with one tool may not break it but another tool might. Still it's good to have one of these in your kit.

For autoglass I suggest a tungsten carbide drill bit sunk into a suitable hammer head or knife handle - can't think of a better combination of hard + tough

For years I carried a ColdSteel tanto with just such a mod - never had a need to use it fortunately

It's just that i walk the city and surrounding "burbs" so much that i'm bound to walk into a situation where my assistance would be needed. As i think of it, i'm surprized that i haven't been in a crisis event by now. By all means i'm not looking for it, but if i could be helpful...

I have a 'tactical' pen with a carbide tip - never tried it on autoglass

BTW - as when at work - unless I have no other option my first action is to call for backup
