I was looking around, thinking about a new knife and came across a Spyderco "rescue" which had a "hardened" point or tip to break glass. The action would be to grip the knife, with point at the heel of the hand and swing down somewhat like a hammer. Then i got to think, how hard is hard, because i usually carry a pair of pliers, and although they dont have a pointed end, i'm assuming with a hard enough swing, the glass should break, right ? The pliers are Channellocks and use 1080 steel with a hardness around the 54-56 rockwell, if my memory serves me.

You're right, I believe 'hardened' is just advertising hype. I assume you're talking about breaking auto glass in an emergency. You've seen it broken before. A pile of crumbled glass pebbles. No large, sharp shards. A focused strike with any hard object will shatter it.

I'd like to try and see, need to find an abandoned truck or car and give it a go.

Hmmm let me think, i live in a city in the heart of the rust belt, which lost 10,000 people last year alone, the third highest poverty level in the country, 2nd worst inner city school rating in the country, and third in crime in the country.

I have an idea there is a car here or there i can bust the windows out of...which is sad

Well, while you're at it... I heard that thieves use a flat blade screwdriver inserted between the glass and window frame, twist sharply, and break the glass that way. Let me know if it works.

    Hi Folks,

What's the difference between light and hard?

Well,... for one thing, you can keep a light on all night.

Yeah! It's the adolescent in me. Never went away.
