Hey guys!

I found this Victorian-looking enameled pocket knife. It's marked by Empire. Is there a way to date Empire's by their mark?

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everyone as well!

Goins Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings shows five different markings. Most appear to have been used during a long period until the company went out of business in 1930.

You are the man, sir!

Interestingly, the file has the "Empire Knife Co Winsted CT" mark, while the two blades have the "Empire W. Winsted CT" Mark. Is it common to have mixed marks?

Sounds like two newer production knife blades assembled with a file blade left-over from older production. Could suggest assembly took place shortly after the introduction of the new marking, rather than later.

That makes sense. I have to see if I can fix it, the pin on one side is mashed up and needs to be replaced
