I have a hunter's scalpel. It is a tiny knife. I don't use it very much because it is too small for my personal tastes. However, the quality is excellent.
I just checked the size - the entire knife is slightly longer than the handle on one of my wife's paring knives. If I were choosing between the two, I'd go with the Bird & Trout.
Bear in mind that the series does feature a very thin blade. I like the handle - it is thin but affords a very good grip - and the sheath, which is very secure.
