Folks,

Just re-discovered these pics. I had intended to include them in my earlier "Mark II" thread. However, for whatever reason, I didn't.

This is an early-war, blade-marked USMC Camillus. What makes it unusual, and what caused me to buy it, is that it has a PAL RH-36 handle! It's clearly used because there is some loss of blade profile:

So, whaddaya think?

A nice conversation piece, anyway

It truly is!!!

Each time I look at it I am filled with speculations -- none of which can be confirmed or denied without removing the PAL handle. And that, of course, is something I will never do.

Daniel, What an interesting piece!
I have "No idea".
The hilt of the knife really does remind me of a PAL. The smooth leather is known to have been used in some of their RH37's. The aluminum pommel really looks more like the kind used by PAL than the examples I've seen on various Camillus knives.

A great "curiosity", I don't think I've ever seen before.

Now I'll wait for the speculations to start up.

Sac Troop,

It is clearly a PAL RH-36 handle. I've compared it to roughly half-a-dozen RH-36 knives. Everything matches perfectly.

The only question, therefore, is WHY??? And therein lies the rub -- the only way to conclusively answer the question to remove the handle and look beneath it, which I will simply not do...

What would you like to see from the tang? I'm sure I have a RH36 blade without the hilt attached. I may have most of the individual hilt pieces too.
Don't have a bare Camillus WW2 MK2 to compare it too but I do have drawings from both Camillus and some of the earlier drawing specs to compare them too.
Have more than a few WW2 Camillus Navy and USMC's to check measurements from.

It occurs to me that we maybe hijacking this post.

Australian rules football. There's no other sport I enjoy watching as much where I have no idea what the rules are.

Not my kind of football....I live in a Rugby League state.
Too much prancing and dancing in Australian Football. Aerial ping pong.

I have to admit, I am not a big fan of Rugby League, either.
Just follow the three game "State of Origin" series between New South Wales and Queensland each year.

At the moment, my home state of Queensland has won for 18 years in a row.....and, living in New South Wales, I get to gloat a lot.

I get a certain amount of pleasure in pointing out to NSW fans that there is no hope of equalling Queensland's record for, at least, another 18 years.

Petty?
Yeah...fun, too.

I'd want to see the details of THIS Mark II's tang, to see whether I could figure out if there was a specific reason for the handle-change. Though I've never seen a "screw-pommel" USMC-marked Camillus (mostly because I don't think they exist), what if it was one? And what if the 'screw-pommel' broke off as they were prone to do? (See what I mean?)

Drawings, and other tangs and handles, just couldn't provide the information I'd be seeking. Thanks.

I don't think so. And, since its my thread, I sorta-kinda think I get to say! [Heh-heh-heh!]
