Just saw the posts talking about the HF the 1 X 30 belt grinder. I have a Delta 1 x30. Looks like the HF pictures.

Where do you guys buy the finer grit and leather belts?

Thanks, Double Ott

Same question for me; I found 1 x 30 leather honing belts at some online woodshop outlets, but haven't been able to find any fine grit belts above 400 grit. I know they're out there somewhere!

The Delta and HF models are very much alike.

I see Lee Valley has already been mentioned.

There is a website that sells a kit of all the grits and the leather and polishing compound.

Here is what it says: Our complete accessories kit includes everything you need to be a master knife sharpener. If you already have a 1 x 30 belt sander this will give you everything you need to sharpen like the pros. Kit includes 120, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1,000 grit belts, leather stropping belt, stropping compound, diamond serration file and safety glasses.

I could go without the serration file and safety glasses. You can also buy stuff individually.

Econ Abrasives has belts down to 12,000 grit. I like their micron belts which go to 9 micron=900 grit. They also have leather belts and compound.

Yeah, "everything you need", except the skill.

Takes practice, hence folks suggesting working on cheap knives until you understand the process.

Excellent links guys! I'm usually pretty good with the "google" thing, but I just wasn't coming up with these sites in my searches.
