regarding the damascus sak, the true story of its developement is here: http://www.inmentis.com/SwissBianco...

also regarding the used steel on that sak, damascus steel is an pattern welded material made of at least 2 kind of materials, to make it possible see the pattern after etch. there where different variants of it made over the time and still experimenting is going on. the damasteel damascus steel version was choosen as its stainless steel and high quality regarding its edge and durability of edgeholding and cause its close by made in sweden by friends, its true damascus pattern welded steel - period.

Got it! Wow, that blade is really beautiful...

Unfortunately the inner-edge of the bottom black Alox grip (scale?) is slightly scratched... hard to see it when the reamer is down (checked the other three "tools" but forgot to check that one... argh).

I could probably bring it back but it was (and will be) the only one. I didn't see any others in town so either I keep it as "near-mint" knife, return it (without replacement possibilites) or I use it as a pricey EDC (it ran me €145 / $175...).

What do you think? I could post a pic but unfortunately my macro shots tend not to flatter defects / scratches...

Nice review! And, regarding the scratches, am I right in that those are the result of the awl rubbing against the inside of the alox scales? If so, this is quite typical for the Vic. Pioneer range SAKs, and is hardly worth worrying about.
