Here's another project I just finished. I started with my favorite carbon blade from the Mora 510. I added 3 pieces of Corian with leather spacers and a walnut main handle. I tried a new shape (with don't kill me a hint of a finger guard) and I was pleased with how it turned out. 2 coats of linseed oil and Watco wax...thanks for looking.

Nice knife dude!
You've done a great job with that handle.
Did you treat the leather spacers with anything before you put them in to make them more water proof or does the oil/wax finish do that for ya?
Thanks
Jim
Jim, I don't do anything special to the leather. I apply 2-3 coats of linseed oil and that does a nice job treating the leather. I then put 2 coats of Watco wax on the handle to protect and water-proof the wood. However that can't be done until about 3 days later once the linseed oil completely dries.

Ok thanks for that. I am fine with timber working but when it comes to leather I am rather clueless!
I'm not really game enough to use leather where I don't need to.
Do you make sheaths for your knives?
Thanks again.
Jim
I don't make sheaths but I'm trying to get my wife to do so, since I have 2 coffee cans full of my knife projects, and no pants for them!!
Using the leather, and even birch bark for spacers works great for mating pieces of bone or wood together. They help hide imperfections of the cuts if they don't quite line up perfectly, since they flex and swell.

Ahhhh, your a smart one kevin
I always found it hard putting in my perspex spacers because of uneven cuts etc. Maybe I should give leather a go.
BTW I have decided that almost all women make great leather workers so get your wife onto it
