The 2009 Custom Tanto" is actually the second time we have made a Limited Edition Tanto.
The First one was in 2004 and that knife was an American Style Chisel Point version. This one is the Actual Traditional Japanese Style Tanto and Closer to the Actual Length of a 16th Century Tanto.
By the 1500s the Tanto because more important to the Samurai Class because the Wearing of the Long Sword (Katana) had been Banned in Public.
The knife went from a last Ditch Weapon to almost a Symbol of Status or Office in Public and in Royal Court.
Our Modern Version is closer to a Shirasaya mounting and has a Bolster instead of a Tsuba or Guard.
Each "Custom Tanto" is supplied with a Custom Leather Sheath made by Sharpshooter Sheath Systems.

At just over 14 inches in Length this is not a small Knife.
Here is one in My Hand.

The Custom Tanto has all of the very fst handling characteristics of the original vintage knives.
The Balance Point of the knife is about an inch in front of the bolster for a pretty neutral feel.
Our Tanto is Just like all real Japanese Tantos in Blade Shape. The Blade has the same subtle Curve that is meant for Executing Quick Draw Cuts.
This Run of "Custom Tantos" are all marked on the right Facing of the Blade.
Good job. Mines on the way. This was a tough decision for me. I have a horn/bone/antler addiction and that BHS was calling but for some reason it didn't look correct (to me) on this blade. Bamboo probably have been the right choice but I went with the natural curly maple. Some of the woods were stunning but that curly just called to me.
