Here's my knife for a necker challenge with its' back sewn and bees waxed sheath.

No. A Scandi sheath is sewn in the rear. No need to protect the stitching fob the edge which is the purpose of a welt.
If you leave just enough space ahead of the edge so it doesn't cut into the leather, the tight fitting Scandi sheath needs no welt. If you want some (unnecessary/extra) feature to add some security ahead of the edge a wooden insert or semi-wooden/antler sheath is the way to go.
However this sheath style is in use in Scandinavia since Viking ages and has proven perfectly reliable.
