I think we need a little bit more information than just the name.

Is this a modern knife? Is it a very old one? Do you have a picture? Is it Bear & Sons or Bear MGC ?

How big is it? What is the blade length?

    More information would be helpful.

"India stag bone" - how novel. I can't tell you much about the knives, though, since I've never owned one. They look pretty good, but the prices are just more than I'm willing to spend for myself. Hopefully some others here can be more helpful. Good luck.

Ya, I know there are lots of em.

Looking for a 'user' , not a collector
Want a traditional look, not high tech.
Want a quality or at least a medium quality.

Seems like getting these combinations is hard.

    Considerd the SOG S1
    also the Marbles Bowie.

Seems like the ones that look traditional are the cheapo's
$20, and anything of quality is either high priced or hi tech looking.

The SOG and marbles are the best choices I've found so far.

This quote is verbatim and not taken out of context:

    Quote:

The only knife manufacturer offering knives with Damascus blades.

Isn't that just a bit untrue?

There aren't many ordinary production manufacturers who offer as many Damascus models as Bear. Here's an old thread about them: Bear brand cutlery ? and here's another: What's Your Opinion On Bear MGC?????

Esav, you are always the reasonable one with the moderating tone and influence.

I was just saying, though, that without any qualifiers their statement is an outright prevariacation. It's not as egregious as Dark Ops, but mildly melodramtic, in a sense.

I have heard few good things from those that have owned them. The damascus doesn't look very high-quality in the first place, the mix used (though it often isn't published) is poor, and I've heard many stories about how it isn't hard or won't cut, etc. There are some other fairly inexpensive knives with damascus that could be good though, look at agrussell.com.
