Hi gang, my first post!

I'm desperately trying to find out what knife this is.

A little background: The above knife is carried by the character "John Locke" on the ABC series "Lost," a show about a group of plane crash survivors stranded on a strange island. Locke is a hunter and knife collector on the show. The knife pictured is the one he uses most.

I've looked all over the internet trying to find it, and have all but failed. I did finally find one person who owns the same knife (the red background pics are his), which he says he paid $8 for. However, so far I have failed in my attempts to contact him directly.

So obviously this is not an expensive knife. Most likely some cheap foreign thing the show picked up on a budget. But it is a cool-looking knife, and I'd very much like to own one myself. Can you guys please help me find out what it is, and where to get it?

Welcome to Knifeforums!

I edited the link you posted because it would have had everyone playing ping-pong with the text through all the responses.

The knife may be a cheapie from who-knows-where but it's not a bad design. I don't recognize it myself, but I did see a mark on the blade that I can't read. What does it say? How long is the blade, about 9"?

I don't know if you've tried this, but I found the ABC web page for the show: http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index.html

Maybe someone on their forums knows something about it, or someone from production might chime in.

I did check their store, but they aren't selling knives, surprise, surprise

Looks like a TOPS custom or (more likely) a TOPS knock-off

I have not been able to make out the word on the blade either. Looks a little like "Vector," but researching "Vector" did not yield anything close. Judging from the pictures with the ruler, I think the blade is between 8.5 to 9 inches long.

In fact I did. To my recollection, there were several "I don't knows," and one, "I think my brother had a similar knife, he said it was called a bowie." Not to mention it's next to impossible to keep track of threads in that forum.

Looked through the TOPS production line already, did not see the knife. If it's a custom, who knows? The $8 lead tells me it must be a knock-off or otherwise cheap foreign knife. So far I have not been able to find anything close to it, though. The combination of that blade shape with that handle shape just seem to elude me!

At $8.00 and the "Frostwood" handle, I'm thinking maybe it might be a Frost Cutlery special. (?)

Good call Steve, they specialize in the rainbow wood, but that might have been made to look like a TOPS knife...not a bad brand if you have no money at all...lol I mean at one time I liked frost, but that was years ago, and way before I really knew anythign about knives...

Nice try, Steve! Almost thought you had something there, but after looking through ALL of Frost's inventory, I've still come up empty.

I've now decided to offer a finder's fee of $10 to the first person who can find me a source for the knife in those pictures. Anybody?

And before you guys think I have no taste at all, my current collection does include two Chris Reeve one-pieces: Project I and Aviator.

The finders fee is more than the knife is worth brand new!
