I received a Bowie knife from my Dad about 40 years ago. It has EDGE BRAND SOLINGEN GERMANY on one side and 447 on the other. It has a Stag handle, full tang, blade length of 9.75and a Brass(?) guard. Anyone know anything about the knife, its manufacturer, or value.

The all-knowing God we call Google has informed me that Solingen, Germany is a fairly popular place to manufacture knives, but that's all I know, sorry.

Thanks-Solingen is/was known for their steel for knives-my Dad used to swear by any thing made in Solingen --I suspect that is why he bought this particular knife.

    Stoker,

First, let me welcome you to the forum.

Edge brand as I recall have some interest, the stag handles and age also make the knife something worth investigating. It's much easier for the "experts" to give you an idea about value and details of the origin if a pic is posted with the query.

    Can you post a pic?

You may also want to step a few forums down the list to "The Bernard Levine Custom Knives and Collector's Forum" and post the query with pic there. It's likely someone who frequesnts that forum will know more.

Wish I could be more helpful....

    Still Welcome to the forums
