While going through the basement of my wife's grandfather who passed away a few years ago, I found an old military style knife with a substantial full-tang blade and grooved wood handle.

It's in the type of condition you'd expect after having spent who knows how many years in an old wooden tool box. Anyway, I'm in the process of cleaning it up.

Anoyone have any history or insight on this manufacturer? I'd be very interested in knowing something about this knife.

I was given one by my father before he died. My grandfather gave him the knife before he left for vietnam. It was purchased in a small hardware store in central MI. for $1.75 in around 1950. It went to Korea but I don't know much about it's use there. My grandfather was only there about 6 months and was sent home.
I too would like to know about the history of this or these knives and their maker. Can anyone help PLEASE?

See my reply on the Mil Knives Forum.
Opinions? I have many. Some I don't, even, know about until I read my posts.

Here's what I remember pulling out of one of my WW2 knife books at one time :
This is the WW2 EGW knife, made with either a leather or wooden handle, mostly used by the Navy. Made by E.G Waterman & Co. in New York City. . BTW, it sold for $4.95 back in the day. 6 3/8" blade and 10 7/8" overall.
