Here is a topic I figured would be nice for
who ever wants to join in.
    Anything traditional, living, skills, hobbies,
My knives of course, Survival and so on.
I will make the topic a sticky.
Thought I would start it off here with some pics of me, I had a chance today to shoot my traditional flat bow, havent had time in awhile to do so, but today I did.
    Thank you

Those are some great pictures Matt!

I really like the idea for the thread and the gear that you are using.

I WILL have a bag and camp knife from you one of these days soon.

The area around you in the picture is cool also.

Hopefully I'll be able to add something to the thread.

    How cool!

Funny coincidence for me too, as just this past Saturday I finally took the step I've been threatening for a long time and jumped back in to archery. I joined my local club and took the first course. I haven't shot in over 25 years. I figure it would be best to get some real training back under my belt before I go and buy gear.

It was such a pleasure. I can't wait 'til I have my skills somewhat in order and I can get my own gear and start going out to the range, which happens to have all daylight hours access, and is in a wonderful arroyo, nestled between a great stand of beautiful old oaks, toyon, walnut, buckthorn, and other local flora.

Did you make the bow yourself Matt? Any leads on whom I might want to contact in the future regarding traditional bows?

    Cheers,
    Pieter

    Hello Pieter:

Thank you for stopping by and posting.

Happy to hear your getting back into archery, I hope you have fun with it. When I can I love to shoot my flat bow.

I made all the gear including the quiver, bag, arm guard (knife of course)and arrows, from ash wood. I carved them from a single block of long wood and attached the turkey feather fletching by hand. They are bit heavier than a cedar arrow but they hit hard and less prone to breakage.
I didnt make the bow, I bought it in the white
(unfinished) and finished it off myself.
I got it awhile back from Rudderbows. They are very nice to deal with and make a great bow.

    Thanks again

Anything with the frontier. Grew up hunting, trapping, shooting whatever I could.
Watched anything with Fess Parker in it. Jeramiah Johnson when it came out, but what put me over the top was reading Allan Eckert's book, The Frontiersmen. Still my favorite.
Read the Backwoodsman mag. since it came out in '80.
The Air Force put me over the edge in survival skills and now at 45 all those hobbies are still with me.
What's best is doing them with one of my ML's, but that's a given.

Here are some pictures taken by Rob Burris. He asked that I post these for him, they came out great. All the fish were caught using hand-tied hair jigs by Rob.. Thanks Rob..
