Jerry, I have been making knives for a little while now, and for the most part learned school of hard knocks. The first knife I ever did looks archaic now, and I rarely pull it out. The times I do remind me that I have learned a bunch, but still strive to learn a bunch more. If the pieces I put together and call a knife leaves me fealing that I could have done more, it doesn't leave the shop. I let one go that had a small flaw in it. The guy said he didn't care about it, so I thought what the heck. That will never happen again. A word of advice Jerry touched on, if you wouldn't give it to someone you love with pride, then don't sell it, or give it away to a stranger. Use it to pop paint lids in the shop, or toss it.
Just my thoughts. Thanks for a great post Jerry.
