January 2001, Bradford, Pa. — W.R. Case
& Sons Cutlery Company, in collaboration with Tony Bose, has reintroduced
a Sowbelly knife for its 2001 catalog.
Case, the most recognized knife
brand in America, has again teamed with
Tony Bose, an award-winning, custom knife
designer. With both internationally known for high-quality, multi-blade
knives, the winning combination is evident in the new Sowbelly.
Building on the success of their
first two, limited-edition projects, Case decided to work with Bose on
a new line of production knives to be added to the 2001 catalog. Inspired
by the original Case Sowbelly, the Bose design incorporates new blade shapes,
grinding style and swedging.
The Sowbelly is a heavy-duty, stockman-style
knife with Tru-Sharp® surgical steel clip, spey and sheepfoot blades.
When closed it measures just under four inches and weighs only 3.8 ounces.
“It’s been 80 years since Case produced
a Sowbelly and in that time it’s become the most requested knife style,
especially among collectors,” explained John Sullivan, Marketing Director
for W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company. “It’s a fairly rare pattern but
we’ve listened to our customers and are prepared to give them what they
want.”
The first knife Tony Bose ever bought
was a Case Folding Hunter, starting a relationship with knives and the
W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company that no one could have imagined 30
years ago. As his love of knives grew, Bose began to build his own and
in 1990, he quit his full-time job to make knives. He quickly gained a
reputation for top-quality custom knives, winning Best Folder at the 1995
and 1998 Blade Shows.
In 1999, Case and Bose collaborated
on a Limited Edition Slimline Trapper that was a sell-out before it went
into production. The Bullnose Trapper designed for 2000 was another immediate
sell-out for Case. Now, Tony Bose and Case have created the Sowbelly for
2001.
The Sowbelly is available in five new
handle materials: Vintage Bone with the color and look of a generations-old,
heirloom knife; Pocket Worn® Black Bone that feels right from the moment
you hold it in your hand; and the deep golden Amber Bone with its dark,
rich brown grooves. The Natural Bone Sowbelly is only available in the
new oval collector’s tin. Sure to become a popular collector’s item, the
Sowbelly is also available in the new Case Silver Script in Cranberry Bone.
With its 2001 line, Case is introducing
a solid nickel silver Case XX logo embedded exclusively in the Cranberry
Bone handle. This gorgeous Silver Script inlay is crafted from the same
nickel silver found in Case bolsters and shields. Combining modern technology
with handcrafted quality, Case uses a computer engraving system that carefully
cuts the logo design into the double-dyed Cranberry Bone. Craftsmen inlay
the solid nickel silver logo, maintaining the hand-assembled quality that
has built the Case reputation.
W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co.
has been making high quality knives since 1889. The most popular collectable
brand of knife in America, Case continues to make its knives the old-fashioned
